Old Forms / New Designs
Digital Exhibition

Thanks for checking out the digital alternative to the window display for Old Forms / New Designs, presented at Made Design as part of DesignTO 2021. I hope you’re able to check out the window in person safely if it’s of interest to you.

This new work engages industrial and craft manufacturing processes and examines support structures to arrive at simplified design forms that exhibit their material origins. The title is a nod to the common and simple sketch forms that inspired these designs.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or comments about the work. The finished prototypes are available for sale and I am also accepting commissions.

Turned Cedar Log, Black Cast Concrete, Water Based Finish

Available in several variations, including cedar, douglas fir, and maple veneer, along with options for feet made from hand carved Canadian granite, limestone, or cast concrete. During the process of selecting and turning timbers, an alternative design using a maple veneer was also explored and is available as a Version 2 below.
